The Olivet College men’s swimming and diving team won 9-of-16 events to beat Albion College, 156-128, today inside the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College men's swimming and diving team won 9-of-16 events to beat Albion College, 156-128, today inside the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
Sophomore Georges Aoun (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/San Vicente de Paul) was a triple winner for the Comets. He took first in the 200 freestyle (1:50.00) and 400 individual medley (4:28.04). Aoun joined with senior Nick Edgar (Lansing/Everett), junior Adam Rhein (Leonard/Romeo), and junior Ben Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) for a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a pool record time of 1:35.94.
In two events, Olivet went 1-2. The first event was the 100 backstroke, where Edgar won with a time of 53.54 seconds and freshman Eric Dawdy (Holt) was second at 56.36 seconds. The other event was the 200 breaststroke, where freshman Taylor Howard (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) was fastest with a time of 2:16.73, followed by Rhein in 2:21.00.
Other winners were senior Joel Knight (Battle Creek/Lakeview) in the 100 butterfly with a time of 54.97 seconds and Rhein in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.37. Freshman Troy Wilkins (Lansing/Everett) claimed the top finishing spot on both diving boards. He scored 235.80 points on the one-meter and 255.80 points on the three-meter.
Olivet also had eight additional second-place finishes -- Aldrich in the 50 freestyle (:22.06), Dawdy in the 200 backstroke (2:06.94), sophomore Jimmy DeRupa (Trenton) in the 100 freestyle (:50.30), Knight in the 200 butterfly (2:11.39), junior Korey Mervenne (Jenison) in the 500 freestyle (5:06.36) and 1,000 freestyle (10:25.16) and Rhein in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.00).
The 200 freestyle relay quartet of Dawdy, Edgar, DeRupa and Aldrich took second in 1:30.27.
The Comets are off until next Saturday, Jan. 26, when they make the trip to compete against Alma College at 1 p.m.
