Volleyball team ends season with three-set loss to Hope
The Olivet College volleyball team ended its season with a three-set loss to Hope College tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The Flying Dutch won by scores of 25-15, 26-24, 25-14. During the match, Olivet recognized seniors Jordy Bergeron and Lacee Boone, who were playing in their final collegiate match.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team ended its season with a three-set loss to Hope College tonight at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. The Flying Dutch won by scores of 25-15, 26-24, 25-14. During the match, Olivet recognized seniors Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores) and Lacee Boone (Otsego), who were playing in their final collegiate match.
The teams traded the first 11 points in set one. Hope then used a 10-3 run in the middle of the set to go up 16-8 and eventually win it 25-15. The Flying Dutch led the second set up until the score was 24-20. The Comets then scored four straight points to force a 24-24. Hope scored the final two points to win the set 26-24. The Flying Dutch led the third set from start-to-finish.
Sophomore Tina Westendorp (Nashville/Maple Valley) pounded down nine kills to lead Olivet. Freshman Emma Brann (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) was next with five kills. Boone topped the team with 13 assists. Sophomore Kaitlyn Salhaney (Caledonia/East Kentwood) led the defense with 14 digs.
