Volleyball team splits two matches at Liz Lykowski Tournament
The Olivet College volleyball team split two matches at the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament today at Indiana Tech. The Comets fell to in-state foe Madonna University 25-10, 25-16, 25-15, in their first match and then bounced back to sweep Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in straight sets 25-22, 25-15, 25-16.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Olivet College volleyball team split two matches at the Liz Lykowski Memorial Tournament today at Indiana Tech. The Comets fell to in-state foe Madonna University 25-10, 25-16, 25-15, in their first match and then bounced back to sweep Calumet College of St. Joseph (Ind.) in straight sets 25-22, 25-15, 25-16. Junior Kristen Sharpley (Marshall) was named to the all-tournament team.
Against Madonna, freshman Emma Brann (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) posted a team-high five kills and two service aces. Freshman Taylor Pringle (Haslett) recorded nine set assists. Sophomore Kaitlyn Salhaney (Caledonia/East Kentwood) topped the defense with six digs.
Against Calumet, Olivet had a season-best .200 hitting percentage. The Comets had had 36 kills and 18 errors on 90 attack attempts. Sharpley led the front row with 12 kills. She hit only three attack errors on 24 attempts for a .375 hitting percentage. Senior Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores) joined her in double figures with 11 kills.
Pringle and senior Lacee Boone (Otsego) dished out 15 and 14 set assists, respectively. Salhaney had a team-leading 19 digs. At the service line, freshman Megan VanderVlucht (McBain) served up three aces.
Olivet will resume its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule Tuesday, Oct. 4, with a 6:30 p.m. match at Hope College.
