Volleyball team loses two matches at own triangular
The Olivet College volleyball team lost both matches of a non-conference triangular today at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. In their first match, the Comets fell to University of Saint Francis (Ind.) in four sets (25-19, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19) and then suffered a straight set loss to Aquinas College 25-16, 25-13, 25-13.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College volleyball team lost both matches of a non-conference triangular today at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet. In their first match, the Comets fell to University of Saint Francis (Ind.) in four sets (25-19, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19) and then suffered a straight set loss to Aquinas College 25-16, 25-13, 25-15. Last night, Olivet lost in three-sets (25-13, 25-8, 25-12) on Aquinas' home floor.
For the day, sophomore Tina Westendorp (Nashville/Maple Valley) led the Comets with 23 kills. Senior Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores) was next with 14, followed by junior Kristen Sharpley (Marshall) with 11. Senior Lacee Boone (Otsego) and freshman Taylor Pringle (Haslett) split duties at the setter position, and finished with 26 and 24 assists, respectively.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Salhaney (Caledonia/East Kentwood) had three of Olivet's 10 service aces. She also had a team-leading 19 digs. Westendorp followed her with 15, while Bergeron and Pringle each had 13.
In last night's match at Aquinas, Westendorp and freshman Mackenzie Inman (Union City) topped the team with five kills apiece. Westendorp also had a team-high eight digs, and Boone dished out a team-leading 15 assists.
The Comets will return their focus to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play next Tuesday, Sept. 20, when they host No. 1 ranked Calvin College. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
