Track and field teams compete at “GINA” Relays
The Olivet College men's and women's track and field teams competed Friday at second of three days of the Hillsdale College "GINA" Relays.
HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's track and field teams competed Friday at second of three days of the Hillsdale College "GINA" Relays.
Highlighting the meet for the women was sophomore Jenna Mayle (Ionia), who broke her own school record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.20, which was four-tenths faster than the old record. Also in the hurdles, senior Caitlin Lohr (Holland/Hamilton) set a personal-best time of 1:12.84.
Freshman Brandi Rimmer (Flint/Carman Ainsworth) was the highest finisher from an NCAA Division III school in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Her time of 13.32 seconds in the 100 was 10th among 21 runners, and her time of 26.86 seconds in the 200 was 16th among 41 runners. Sophomore Rachael Wagner (Clinton Twp./Fraser) posted personal bests in the 100-meter dash (:13.35) and high jump (1.50m/4 feet, 11 inches).
For the men, freshman Henry Pettway (East Lansing) was the top performer, as he finished in third-place in the 100-meter dash with a lifetime best time of 11.11 seconds. Pettway also set a personal best in the 200-meter dash at 23.09 seconds. Freshman Jalen Weaver (Albion) posted a season-best time in the 800-meter run at 1:55.33. It is also the second-best time in the MIAA this season.
In Thursday night's events, freshman Greg Lutzke (Williamston) broke the school record in the 5,000-meter run. He crossed the finish line in 15:45.80.
Saturday's final day of competition gets underway with finals in eight field events, starting at 10 a.m., and the championship finals in running events at 1 p.m.
