Women’s swimming team beaten by Saint Mary’s, 153-105
The Olivet College women’s swimming team was beaten by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College, 153-105, this afternoon at Rolfs Aquatic Center in South Bend, Indiana.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Olivet College women's swimming team was beaten by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Saint Mary's (Ind.) College, 153-105, this afternoon at Rolfs Aquatic Center in South Bend, Indiana.
The Comets had five individuals and one relay finish in first-place. Winners were sophomore Shana Bush (Alma) in the 1,000 freestyle (11:28.58), junior Katie Dobis (Munster, Ind.) in the 200 backstroke (2:26.69), freshman Kira Gates (Grosse Ile) in the 100 butterfly (1:04.74); sophomore Jazmin Johnson (Grand Rapids/Northview) in the 100 freestyle (56.31); and junior Kristin Long (Pemberville, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) in the 200 breaststroke (2:49.04).
Swimming on the first-place 200-medley relay were Dobis, Gates, Long and Johnson, and their time was 2:01.91. These four also placed second in an individual event – Dobis in the 100 backstroke (1:08.00), Gates in the 200 butterfly (2:21.53), Johnson in the 50 freestyle (25.47) and Long in the 200 individual medley (2:27.22).
Also finishing in second was senior Jana Blodgett (Sturgis) in the 100 breaststroke (1:18.43). The 200 freestyle relay quartet of Blodgett, Bush, Gates and Johnson was second with a time of 1:47.98.
Olivet will now focus on the 2013 MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 13-16 at Jenison High School.
