Women’s swimming team falls to Kalamazoo, 210-58
The Olivet College women’s swimming team was defeated by Kalamazoo College, 210-58, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual meet this afternoon in Kalamazoo.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Olivet College women's swimming team was defeated by Kalamazoo College, 210-58, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) dual meet this afternoon in Kalamazoo.
The Comets had only one event winner, as sophomore Kaitlin Smith (Port Huron) took first in the 200-yard backstroke. She edged Kalamazoo's Hannah Heenan by six hundredths of a second, 2:18.65-2:18.71. Smith also placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.01. Other individual second-place finishes were turned in by sophomore Shana Bush (Alma) in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 11:33.36; junior Alivia Hammond (Byron Center) in the 100-yard backstroke, 1:05.73; and sophomore Jazmin Johnson (Grand Rapids/Northview) in the 100-yard freestyle, :56.61.
Both Olivet relays finished in second-place. Swimming on the 200-yard medley relay were Hammond, Smith, freshman Kira Gates (Grosse Ile) and Johnson, and their time was 1:57.17. The 200-yard freestyle quartet was Hammond, junior Kristin Long (Pemberville, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy), Gates and Johnson, and they stopped the clock at 1:46.22.
Olivet is back in action next Friday, Nov. 9, for a non-conference double dual meet at Hillsdale College, starting at 6 p.m. The Comets will swim against the host Chargers and Ohio Northern University.
