Women’s swimming team loses to defending MIAA champion Calvin
The Olivet College women’s swimming team fell to defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Calvin College, 197-83, this afternoon in its home-opener at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's swimming team fell to defending Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) champion Calvin College, 197-83, this afternoon in its home-opener at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
The Comets had three first-place finishes, including two for individuals. Sophomore Jazmin Johnson (Grand Rapids/Northview) took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle (:25.51), while junior Kristin Long (Pemberville, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) was first in the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.79).
Johnson and Long joined with junior Alivia Hammond (Byron Center) and freshman Kira Gates (Grosse Ile) for a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, stopping the clock at 3:55.96.
Gates was second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:42.39). Senior Chelsea Mullins (Macomb/L'Anse Creuse North) placed second in the 200 IM (2:40.11). Gates, Hammond, Johnson and sophomore Kaitlin Smith (Port Huron) finished second in the 400-yard medley relay (4:17.04).
Olivet will return to the pool next Saturday, Nov. 3, at Kalamazoo College at 1 p.m.
