Women's swimming team comes up short against Calvin, 150-85
OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College women's swimming team ended the dual meet portion of its schedule by losing to Calvin, 150-85, today at the Upton Center Pool in Olivet.
Despite the loss, the Comets won four total events. Sophomore Crystal Jager (Dorr/Hamilton) was a double winner. She took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.54) and 100 butterfly in season-best time of 1:02.32.
Olivet won both relays. The 200 medley team of freshman Alivia Hammond (Byron Center), Jager, junior Caitlin Lohr (Holland/Hamilton) and freshman Kristin Long (Pemberville, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) touched first in 1:54.38. The 200 freestyle relay quartet of Lohr, Jager, Hammond and freshman Camieo Green (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) won by more than two seconds at 1:44.32. Second-place finishes were turned in by sophomore Jana Blodgett (Sturgis) in the 200 breaststroke, 2:56.31; and Hammond in the 100 backstroke, 1:03.86.
Olivet now turns its attention to 2011 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships Feb. 17-19 at the Jenison High School Aquatic Center. Action each day has preliminaries at 10 a.m., followed by finals at 6 p.m.
