Each player was recognized by their regions, conferences and universities. The 2011 and 2012 USA D-3 All Star Teams consisted of several All-Region and All-Conference selections. Past team members, Erica Suter, Johns Hopkins, was named National Midfielder of the Year and All-American. The men's team was led by Jake Urbaniak, Texas-Tyler, who was named National Defensive Player of the Year and All American.
"I believe that the players on these teams will be some of the same players we see recognized as All-Americans, All-Region and All-Conference players in 2013. This is an outstanding group of young men and women." says Ron Smith. "This tour is designed to expose players to a great soccer experience while providing a once in a lifetime opportunity for educational, cultural and social growth."
The USA D-3 Soccer tour will run from Monday, May 20-Wednesday, May 29. The squad will begin with orientation and practice in Orlando, Florida for the first 24 hours before flying to Sao Paulo, Brazil for back-to-back-to-back contests in the City of Jundiai and the state of Sao Paulo on May 22-24. The two USA D-3 Soccer teams will be competing against top U-22 club teams from the States of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
Aside from representing the USA on the pitch, the trip will also provide the group of All-Stars with educational, social and cultural outreach opportunities within the communities they visit, and will also allow them to visit schools and historical sites throughout Brazil.
