Women’s soccer team defeats Trine, 3-1
Three different players scored a goal, as the Olivet College women’s soccer team defeated Trine (Ind.) University, 3-1, this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. – Three different players scored a goal, as the Olivet College women's soccer team defeated Trine (Ind.) University, 3-1, this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
The Comets scored their first goal just four minutes and 30 seconds into the game. Freshman Nicole Borek (Holt) crossed the ball into the box, where freshman Ana Gomez (Rochester Hills/Notre Dame Prep) tapped the ball into the middle of the net for her first collegiate goal. The assist was Borek's first collegiate point.
Olivet added another goal in the 25th minute when senior Madison Forsyth (Macomb Twp./Henry Ford II) had her shot from just outside the 18-yard box wrap around the far post and drop into the net. She scored the goal only 34 seconds after subbing into the game.
The score stayed 2-0 until the sixth minute of the second half on sophomore Kaylee Liddle's (Clarkston) second goal of the season. Gomez and freshman Lauren Vanderhoff (Sterling Hts./Henry Ford II) were each credited with an assist on the goal. Gomez took a shot that was not controlled by the keeper, and Vanderhoff had her shot hit off the post, where Liddle gathered the rebound and headed the ball into the net.
Trine closed the scoring with an unassisted goal by Ruth Feliciano in the 59th minute.
For the game, Olivet recorded 21 shots, including 12 on-goal, to 14 and 8 for the Thunder. Junior Lindsey Winters (Plymouth/Canton) led the way with five shots. Gomez had four shots, followed by Vanderhoff and freshman Emily Chrzacz (Livonia/Stevenson) with three each. Freshman Deanna Zolnoski (Macomb/Henry Ford II) made seven saves in 90 minutes of action in goal.
Olivet will end its season Saturday night when it hosts Adrian College at 7 p.m. The game will be played on the Cutler turf field.
