OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College junior defender Jenna Mayle (Ionia) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Defensive Player of the Week honors for women's soccer.
Mayle played every minute in two games last week, as the Comets allowed only one goal. She turned back several scoring threats in a 1-0 loss to Calvin College Sept. 25 and then anchored the backline in a 1-0 win over Albion College Sept. 27. Mayle is being honored for the first time in her career.
"Jenna did a tremendous job for us this past week," said Olivet Head Women's Soccer Coach Hans Morgan. "We moved her to the center back spot and she has been getting more and more comfortable there. It really showed in her play last week. Jenna was terrific in the Calvin game and our confidence in her allowed us to push more players into attack in the second half against Albion, which had a huge affect on the game. We are very proud of her and this is a well deserved honor for her."
The Comets will play two road games this week to wrap-up the first half of their league schedule. On Wednesday, Olivet travels to play Adrian College at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, it plays a 6 p.m. game at Trine (Ind.) University.
