Women’s soccer team loses to Saint Mary’s, 4-1, in MIAA-opener

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's soccer team started the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) portion of its schedule with a tough 4-1 loss to Saint Mary's (Ind.) College at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.
The Belles scored two goals in each half to take a 4-0 lead. The Comets broke up the shutout when junior Lindsey Winters (Plymouth/Canton) sent a shot from 17 yards out into the net at the far post.
Offensively, Olivet had a 13-10 advantage in shots; however, Saint Mary's had an 8-6 edge in shots-on-goal. Winters topped the Comets with five shots, while freshman Emily Chzasz (Livonia/Stevenson) and Deanna Zolnoski (Macomb/Henry Ford II) each had two.
Zolnoski and freshman Devin Blue (Traverse City/Central) split time in goal. Blue started the game and played the first 75 minutes and nine seconds. She allowed three goals on 10 shots and made four saves. Zolnoski gave up a goal on the only shot she faced.
The Comets continue MIAA play Saturday when they host Alma College at noon. The game is a part of a soccer doubleheader in Olivet, as the Comet men will play University of Mich.-Dearborn after the women's game at approximately 2:30 p.m.
