Olivet College women’s soccer team suffers 2-0 loss to MSOE
The Olivet College women’s soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) in the first round of the 2012 O.C. Comet Cup at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. In the other first round game, Trine (Ind.) University defeated Manchester (Ind.) University, 2-1, in double overtime.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) in the first round of the 2012 O.C. Comet Cup at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. In the other first round game, Trine (Ind.) University defeated Manchester (Ind.) University, 2-1, in double overtime.
There was no scoring in the first half. The Raiders broke through in the 54th minute. Anna O'Donnell gathered the rebound off her own missed shot and sent the ball into the net. The Comets had a couple chances to score the equalizer, but two shots were off target. MSOE added a second goal with just under 20 minutes left in the game when O'Donnell assisted on a goal by Paula Bohl.
For the game, Olivet out-shot the Raiders, 15-8. Junior Madison Forsyth (Macomb Twp./Henry Ford II) topped the team with four, while junior Lindsey Winters (Plymouth/Canton) had three. In net, freshman Deanna Zolnoski (Macomb/Henry Ford II) played the entire game and made six saves.
In the other game, Manchester took a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute on a goal by Katelyn Barta. Trine tied the game at 1-1 with a goal in the 39th minute on a goal by Kayla Case. Neither team scored in the second half or the first overtime period. The Thunder won the game when Eleni Angelopolous scored in the fourth minute of the second overtime.
Tomorrow, MSOE will play Trine at 3 p.m., and Olivet will play Manchester at approximately 5 p.m.
