Wrestling team opens season with 46-0 loss to Michigan
The Olivet College wrestling team was invited to wrestle against University of Michigan in its season-opener tonight at the Cliff Keen Arena in Ann Arbor. The Wolverines, No. 13 in the preseason National Wrestling Coaches Association/USA Today rankings, scored bonus points in nine-of-10 matches en route to a 46-0 win over the Comets.

The Wolverines, No. 13 in the preseason National Wrestling Coaches Association/USA Today rankings, scored bonus points in nine-of-10 matches en route to a 46-0 win over the Comets.
Starting at 125 pounds, Michigan's Sean Boyle won by tech fall over Olivet sophomore Payne Blanchard (Jackson/East Jackson), 18-2. Rosario Bruno then defeated senior Kam Olsen (Kentwood/East Kentwood), 11-2, at 133 pounds. Senior Kenny Richmond (Brighton) fell to Camryn Jackson, 10-2, at 141 pounds.
At 149 pounds, Eric Grajales pinned junior Gage Pederson (Hastings) in the first period. Sophomore Kyle Witgen (Romeo) suffered a 16-5 loss to Jacob Salazar at 157 pounds. Sophomore Dan Fleet (Ada/Lowell) and senior Josh Crawford (Birch Run) were pinned by Taylor Massa and Daniel Yates at 165 and 174 pounds, respectively.
Junior Andy Ottenwess (Grand Rapids/Allendale) was the only Olivet wrestler to lose by decision, 11-4, at 184 pounds to Jordan Thomas. Junior Andrew Simpson (Tecumseh) lost 14-3 at 197 pounds to Maxwell Huntley. Senior Jake Ceslick (Alpena) suffered a 12-2 loss at 285 pounds to Justin Dozier.
The Comets return to the mats next Sunday, Nov. 11, at the Michigan State University Open.
