Women’s lacrosse team falls to Carthage, 15-2

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's lacrosse battled a persistent rain shower and fell to Carthage (Wis.) College, 15-2, this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet.

The Lady Reds scored the first goals of the game. The Comets got on the scoreboard with 9:09 left in the half when freshman Taylor Guarnaccia (East Lansing/Haslett) found the back of the net on a free position shot. Carthage scored four more goals to take a 9-1 lead at halftime. The Lady Reds extended their lead with four goals to start the second half.

Freshman Geri Merrell (Battle Creek/Lakeview) scored Olivet's final goal with 19:15 left in the game. The goal was her team-leading 38th of the season. Carthage ended the scoring with two goals.

The Comets were limited to six total shots for the game. Merrell led the way with three. Senior Cortney Wernette (Remus/Chippewa Hills) won three draw controls and pocketed three ground balls. In goal, freshman Sarah Shaw (Grand Haven) faced 33 shots and made 14 saves.

Olivet will end its season Monday, April 30, when it hosts the Saint Mary's (Ind.) College club team. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
