Women’s golf team dominates MIAA playoff round #1
The Olivet College women’s golf team had the top three players in the individual standings en route to a first-place finish at the first MIAA playoff round today at the Blackthorn Golf Course in South Bend. The leader after the three MIAA playoff rounds will receive the conference’s automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA DIII National Championships.
SOUTH BEND, Mich. – The Olivet College women's golf team had the top three players in the individual standings en route to a first-place finish at the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) playoff round today at the Blackthorn Golf Course in South Bend. The leader after the three MIAA playoff rounds will receive the conference's automatic bid to the 2013 NCAA DIII National Championships.
Olivet carded a 330 team score, which was 23 strokes better than runner-up Saint Mary's (Ind.) College. Hope College took third at 361, and Calvin College was fourth at 370.
Junior Adrienne Plourde led the Comets with a four-over par 76. Her round featured three birdies, seven pars and seven bogies. Junior Theresa Damico was second overall with an 80. She had two birdies, including on hole #18 after waiting out an hour-long lightning delay.
Freshman Casey Lamp was next with an 83, which included eight pars. Freshman Brooke Kastamo completed her round in 91 strokes to finish in a three-way tie for eighth-place. Junior Ashley Stark shot a 94.
As MIAA champions during the fall season, Olivet hosts the final two rounds next Friday and Saturday, April 26-27, at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. The 2013 NCAA DIII National Championships are May 14-17 at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Fla.
