Women’s golf team ties for first, and finishes third in playoff standings
MARSHALL, Mich. – The Olivet College women's golf team tied Saint Mary's (Ind.) College for first-place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Playoff round #3 today at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. The tie was good enough for the Belles to finish in overall playoff standings and receive the MIAA's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division III National Championships next month.
For today's round, Saint Mary's and Olivet both carded 328s. Hope College was one stroke behind at 329, and Calvin College was fourth at 353. In the final standings, the Belles totaled 986 strokes. Hope was five strokes ahead of the Comets, 1009-1014, while Calvin placed fourth at 1091.
Playing in her final collegiate round of golf, senior Lauren Campbell (Fenton) tied Saint Mary's Christine Brown for third-place in the individual player standings with an 81. Sophomores Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) and Adrienne Jones (Redford/Thurston) were part of a five-way tie for fifth-place with 82s. Sophomore Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) posted her best round of the spring season with an 83. Freshman Jennifer Myers (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) rounded out Olivet's lineup with a 93.
