Women’s golfers are 11th at IWU Spring Fling
The Olivet College women’s golf team placed 11th at the 2012 Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Fling, which was played at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
NORMAL, Ill. – The Olivet College women's golf team placed 11th at the 2012 Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Fling, which was played at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
The Comets finished with a two-round score of 687 total strokes. DePauw (Ind.) University took first-place in the 17-team field with a 634 (306-328). Centre (Ky.) College was third at 637 (312-325), followed by Wis.-Eau Claire, 655 (321-334); Birmingham Southern (Ala.), 659 (322-337); Saint Mary's (Ind.), 660 (325-335); Illinois Wesleyan, 664 (330-334); Carroll (Wis.), 673 (329-344); North Central (Ill.), 682 (334-348); and Rhodes (Tenn.), 686 (333-353).
After shooting a 77 in Saturday's first round, sophomore Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) finished her round today in 83 strokes for a 160 total and tie for sixth-place in the player standings. Senior Lauren Campbell (Fenton) carded a two-day total of 173 (82-91) strokes.
Freshman Jennifer Myers (Palos, Ill./Stagg) and sophomore Adrienne Jones (Redford/Thurston) each improved by one stroke today. Myers had an 88 and 87 for a two-round total of 175 strokes, while Jones went 90 and 89 for a 179. Sophomore Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) completed her two rounds in 188 total strokes.
Olivet will participate in the first of three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) playoff rounds Tuesday at the Wuskowhan Players Club in West Olive. By virtue of winning the league championship during the fall, the Comets will host the final two rounds April 27-28 on their home course, The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. After the three rounds, the school with the lowest cumulative total will receive the MIAA's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division III National Championships.
