The Olivet College women’s golf team is in 12th-place after first round of the Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Fling at the Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill. Tomorrow’s second round has a 10 a.m. ET shotgun start.

The Comets carded a 337 team score and are less than 10 strokes out of seventh-place. DePauw (Ind.) University leads the 17-team field with a 306. Centre (Ky.) College is second at 312. Wis.-Eau Claire is third, 321; followed by Birmingham Southern (Ala.), 322; Washington (Mo.), 324; Saint Mary's (Ind.), 325; Carroll (Wis.), 329; Illinois Wesleyan, 330; Rhodes (Tenn.), 333; North Central (Ill.), 334; and Wis.-Whitewater, 335.
Sophomore Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) posted Olivet's best score with a 77. Senior Lauren Campbell (Fenton) was next with an 82. Freshman Jennifer Myers (Palos, Ill./Stagg) shot an 88. Sophomore Adrienne Jones (Redford/Thurston) had a 90. Sophomore Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) completed her round in 96 strokes.
Following tomorrow's round, Olivet will compete at the first of three Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) playoff rounds next Tuesday, April 17, at the Wuskowhan Players Club in West Olive. By virtue of winning the league championship during the fall, the Comets will host the final two rounds April 27-28 on their home course, The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. After the three rounds, the school with the lowest cumulative total will receive the MIAA's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Division III National Championships.
