Women’s golf team sits in first-place after day one of MIAA Championships
Sophomore Theresa Damico is tied for first-place in the player standings, and the Olivet College women’s golf team sits in first-place after day one of the 2011 MIAA Championships at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Sophomore Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) is tied for first-place in the player standings, and the Olivet College women's golf team sits in first-place after day one of the 2011 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
By virtue of the Comets holding a nine-stroke lead, 325-334, over Hope College, they also shaved the same number of strokes off their deficit in the overall MIAA standings. Entering tomorrow's final round, Olivet trails the Flying Dutch by just six strokes (1,660-1,666).
Damico is tied with Natalie Matuzek from Saint Mary's (Ind.), as each shot a 77. Damico had a 38 on the front nine, and a 39 on the back nine. Senior Lauren Campbell (Fenton) is third in the player standings with a 78. Sophomore Adrienne Jones (Redford/Thurston) is part of a tie for seventh with an 83. Freshman Jennifer Myers (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) tied her best round of the season with an 87. Sophomore Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) was a stroke behind her with an 88.
Following the Comets and Hope today were Saint Mary's in third at 337, Calvin 353, Alma 363, Adrian 366, Albion 368, Trine 374 and Kalamazoo 395. The rest of the overall standings are Saint Mary's 1,708; Calvin 1,755; Adrian 1,836; Trine 1,860; Albion 1,893; Alma 1,919; and Kalamazoo 1,981.
Tomorrow's round has a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
