Campbell breaks MIAA 18-hole record, women’s golf team ties for first-place
Olivet College senior Lauren Campbell earned medalist honors with a MIAA 18-hole record 70, and the Comet women’s golf team tied for first-place at the MIAA Jamboree #4 today at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – Olivet College senior Lauren Campbell (Fenton) earned medalist honors with a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) 18-hole record 70, and the Comet women's golf team tied for first-place at the MIAA Jamboree #4 today at the Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. This jamboree replaced the suspended jamboree last Thursday, Sept. 29, at The Medalist Golf Club.
The previous record was 72 by Mary Kate Boyce from Saint Mary's (Ind.) College on Oct. 9, 2010, at Bedford Valley. The 70 also broke the Olivet 18-hole record, with the also old record was 72 by Lindsay Pipkin on April 5, 2009, at the Zollner Golf Course.
In today's round, the Comets carded a 322 team score to tie Hope College. Behind them were Saint Mary's 344, Calvin 352, Adrian 360, Albion 370, Trine 376, Alma 400 and Kalamazoo 417.
Campbell's round featured four birdies, 12 pars and two bogies. Sophomore Adrienne Jones (Redford/Thurston) was seventh in the player standings with an 81. Sophomore Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) finished a stroke behind with an 82. Sophomore Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) carded an 89, and freshman Jennifer Myers (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) completed Olivet's lineup with a 94.
With two rounds left, Hope continues to hold a 15-stroke lead over the Comets (1,326-1,341) in the overall standings. Saint Mary's is 30 strokes behind Olivet at 1,371, followed by Calvin 1,402; Adrian 1,470; Trine 1,486; Albion 1,525; Alma 1,556; and Kalamazoo 1,586.
All of the teams will return to Bedford Valley tomorrow and Saturday for the final two rounds. Friday's round starts at 1 p.m., and Saturday's round gets under way at 9 a.m.
