Damico is medalist and women’s golf wins MIAA Jamboree by 17 strokes
Sophomore Theresa Damico earned medalist honors with a 74, and the Olivet College women’s golf won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree #2 today at The Ravines Golf Club in Saugatuck.
SAUGATUCK, Mich. – Sophomore Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) earned medalist honors with a 74, and the Olivet College women's golf won the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Jamboree #2 today at The Ravines Golf Club in Saugatuck. The Comets beat second-place Hope College by 17 strokes, 323-340. Saint Mary's (Ind.) College was third at 345.
Damico carded a 38 on the front nine and a 36 on the back nine for her 74, which ties for the second-best, 18-hole score in school history. Sophomore Adrienne Jones (Redford/Thurston) was next with an 81, including a 39 on the back nine, to tie for second-place in the player standings. Senior Lauren Campbell (Fenton) finished a stroke behind with an 82 with 41s on the front and back nine. Sophomore Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) had her 86 count towards the team score. Freshman Jennifer Myers (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) completed her round in 94 strokes.
With today's win, Olivet moves into second-place in the seasonal standings and is now just three strokes behind first-place Hope, 665-668. Saint Mary's slips to third-place at 687, followed by Calvin 702, Trine 737, Adrian 740, Alma 760, Albion 776 and Kalamazoo 788.
The Comets takes their final break from MIAA play Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 24-25, when they play in the DePauw (Ind.) Small College Classic at the Deer Creek Golf Club in Danville, Indiana.
