Women’s golf team places third at NCAA Preview

ANGOLA, Ind. – Senior Lauren Campbell (Fenton) shared medalist honors, as the Olivet College women's golf team placed at the NCAA Preview. The tournament was played at Trine (Ind.) University's Zollner Golf Course in Angola. The course will host the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship next May 8-11.

After posting a 328 team score in Friday's first round, Olivet slipped by four strokes with a 332 today and two-round total of 660 strokes. Washington University-St. Louis won the team championship, leading the 13-team field with a 621 (313-308), followed by DePauw (Ind.) University in second at 641 (327-314). Washington was is ranked No. 7 in the preseason National Golf Coaches Association poll, while DePauw is No. 2 and the Comets are No. 13.

Campbell shot a 74 in the first round, and had a 75 in today's round to tie Washington's Olivia Lugar for medalist honors with 149s. Sophomore Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) was part of a tie for 10th in the player standings with a 161 (80-81). Sophomore Adrienne Jones (Redford/Thurston) improved by three strokes today for a two-round total of 165 strokes (84-81). Sophomore Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) completed her rounds in 185 (80-85) total strokes. Freshman Megahn Piper (Parma/Western) closed Olivet's starting five with a 209 (109-100). Freshman Jennifer Myers (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) was an individual scorer and carded a two-day total of 182 (93-89) strokes.

The Comets return to action next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10, when they host their own invitational at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall. Both days have shotgun starts, 2 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.
