Women’s golf team stands in third-place at NCAA Preview
Senior Lauren Campbell leads the player standings, and the Olivet College women’s golf team stands in third-place after the first day of competition at the NCAA Preview, which is being played at Trine (Ind.) University’s Zollner Golf Course in Angola.
ANGOLA, Ind. – Senior Lauren Campbell (Fenton) leads the player standings, and the Olivet College women's golf team stands in third-place after the first day of competition at the NCAA Preview, which is being played at Trine (Ind.) University's Zollner Golf Course in Angola. The tournament is giving teams the chance to play the course that will host the 2012 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship May 8-11, 2012.
The Comets carded a 328 team score, which is just one stroke behind DePauw (Ind.) University. Washington University-St. Louis tops the 13-team field with a 313. Wittenberg (Ohio) University is fourth, 336, followed by Transylvania (Ky.) University, 345; Franklin (Ind.) College, 347; Hope College, 348; North Central (Ill.) College, 349; Adrian College, 369; and Trine (Ind.) University, 371.
Campbell posted a 37 on the front and back nine, and had two birdies. Sophomore Theresa Damico (White Lake/Lakeland) is tied for sixth in the player standings with an 80. Sophomore Adrienne Jones (Redford/Thurston) shot an 84, and fellow sophomore Ashley Stark (Grass Lake) carded a 90. Freshman Megahn Piper (Parma/Western) rounded out Olivet's starting five with a 109. Freshman Jennifer Myers (Palos Hills, Ill./Stagg) played as an individual scorer and had a 93.
Tomorrow's second round features a 1 p.m. shotgun start.
