Olivet College’s DeShazor named MIAA Co-Player of the Week for women’s basketball
Olivet College senior SoQuitta DeShazor (Flint/Hamady) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Co-Player of the Week for women’s basketball. She is sharing the honor with Liz Ellis from Hope College.
OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College senior SoQuitta DeShazor (Flint/Hamady) has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Co-Player of the Week for women's basketball. She is sharing the honor with Liz Ellis from Hope College.
DeShazor averaged 15 points and eight rebounds in leading the Comets to a pair of non-conference wins. In a 76-59 win Dec. 10 at Oberlin (Ohio) College, she scored a career-high 18 points and pulled down seven rebounds. DeShazor followed that performance with 12 points and nine rebounds in a 62-51 win Dec. 12 at University of Northwestern Ohio. For the week, she made 14-of-23 shots (60.9 percent) and 2-of-3 for her 30 points.
For the season, DeShazor leads the team in rebounding at 7.3 rebounds per game and third in scoring at 11.1 points per game. She is shooting 47.3 percent (35-of-74) from the floor and 70.4 percent (19-of-27) from the charity stripe.
"SoQuitta played very well for us on our trip to Ohio," said Olivet Head Women's Basketball Coach Nicole Burford. "She showed her versatility on offense and was very assertive. SoQuitta also continued to be a solid defender and rebounder for us, showing her toughness in those areas."
Olivet (7-1) resumes MIAA play Wednesday night when it hosts Hope College in a battle for first-place in the MIAA standings. The Comets and Flying Dutch enter the game with 3-0 MIAA records. Tip-off at The Cutler Event Center is 7:30 p.m.
