Dear Friends, Family and Alumnae of Olivet College Softball,

We are just a few weeks away from the start of the 2012 softball season. Each year presents challenges and opportunities for our student-athletes and coaching staff. Our current players and staff are working hard at overcoming those challenges and embracing the opportunities that come our way.

Besides preparing and competing to the best of their abilities for the softball program, our softball players embrace being student-athletes. Each year we have a handful of players that receive recognition as NFCA Scholar All-Americans. As a team, our students carried a cumulative 3.22 GPA for the 2010-11 school year. In addition, our ladies are engaged in multiple other activities such as:

• Working off-campus jobs
• Work study jobs
• Participating in campus activities and organizations
• Service to the community
• Working as Resident Hall Advisors
• Tutoring other students

One of our biggest hurdles each year is funding our program. While the college provides support for the softball program, our needs are larger than what the college can currently provide. Each season requires new bats, balls, protective gear, and of course, our southern trip during which we play 30 percent of our games. We run several fundraising activities at the college each year which include parking for football games, concessions at basketball games, and our winter softball camp. While these efforts definitely help, they do not meet our entire budgetary needs.

With your support, we can better meet these financial challenges. Please contribute to the success of the 2012 Comet Softball season by becoming a member of our Fastpitch Fans Club. Your contributions will go directly to the softball program to assist with financial demands that we must meet. For an $80 donation, you receive an Olivet College Softball short sleeve and long sleeve T-shirt. For a donation of $160, you will also receive an Olivet College Softball sweatshirt. Just complete and return the Fastpitch Fans donation card. You will receive a tax-deductible receipt for 80 percent of your donation.
