OLIVET, Mich. – Olivet College senior Trevor Tyler (Roscommon) has been named to the 2012 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Men's Track and Field team.
Tyler was an automatic selection after tying for first in the 400-meter dash at the 2012 MIAA Field Day May 3-4 at Calvin College. He finished the finals in 49.02 seconds after crossing the finish line during the preliminaries at 48.32 seconds. Tyler also placed third in the 200-meter dash at 22.22 seconds, which was only one-hundredth of a second slower than the school record. He also ran the leadoff leg of the second-place 4x100-meter relay and anchor leg of the fourth-place 4x400-meter relay.
Tyler's time in the 400 is tied for the 19th fastest time among all NCAA Division III runners. He is planning to run the event this weekend at the Grand Valley State University Last Chance Meet, with hopes of going faster to qualify for the 2012 NCAA Division III National Championships May 24-26 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.). The top 20 student-athletes in each of the individual running and field events will be invited to participate in the national championships.
