Cline finishes seventh in javelin and five runners advance to finals at MIAA Field Day
Senior Lee Cline finished in seventh-place in the javelin and five runners advanced to the finals, as the Olivet College men’s track and field team competed at the 2012 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Senior Lee Cline (Mt. Morris) finished in seventh-place in the javelin and five runners advanced to the finals, as the Olivet College men's track and field team competed at the 2012 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day.
Cline had a 49.70 meter/163 feet throw in the javelin to earn his sixth-place finish. Also in the javelin, sophomore Dillon Norton (Carson City/Crystal) placed 10th at 39.40 meters/129 feet, 3 inches.
Highlighting the running event preliminaries was senior Trevor Tyler (Roscommon), who had the fastest time in the 400-meter dash. His time of 48.32 seconds was also a season-best and moves him up to tenth among all NCAA Division III runners this spring. Tyler was also fourth fastest in the 200-meter dash at 22.45 seconds. Freshman Billyle Alman (Lansing/Okemos) is also in the finals of the 400-meter dash, as he posted the fourth fastest prelim time at 50.26 seconds.
The Comets have also qualified two runners in the finals of the 100-meter dash. Freshman Henry Pettway (East Lansing) won his prelim heat and overall was third quickest at 11.26 seconds. Senior James Williams (Battle Creek/Central) joins him in the finals after posting the seventh fastest time at 11.39 seconds.
Freshman Jalen Weaver (Albion) recorded the third fastest prelim time in the 800-meter run at 2:02.33.
The finals in 11 running events will start tomorrow at 1:30 p.m., while finals in four field events will get under way at 10 a.m.
