Indoor track & field teams participate in the GVSU Big Meet
The Olivet College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams participated in the 2012 Grand Valley State University Big Meet today at the Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale. More than 50 schools competed at the meet.
ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's indoor track and field teams participated in the 2012 Grand Valley State University Big Meet today at the Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale. More than 50 schools competed at the meet.
For the men, senior James Williams (Battle Creek/Central) ran a season-best 7.18 in the 60-meter dash and 23.35 in the 200-meter dash. Freshman Henry Pettway (East Lansing) went a season-best 23.52 in the 200-meter dash.
Sophomore Billyle Alman (Lansing/Okemos) ran the 400-meter dash in 52.06, which was a season-best time. Freshman Evan Simpson (Romeo) turned in a season-best performance in the mile run at 4:37.65. Freshman Jacob Bramen (Edmore/Central Montcalm) clocked-in with a season-best time of 9.46 in the 60-meter hurdles.
The 4x400-meter relay team of Alman, freshman Jalen Weaver (Albion), Bramen and sophomore Connor Plagens (South Lyon) finished in 3:35.22.
"We are showing great progress," said Olivet Head Men's Track Coach Jeff Kavalunas. "Each of the guys has shown a lot of intensity in their race."
Leading the way for the women was senior Crystal Ramon (Marshall) who broke the indoor school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:38.61. The previous record was 2:39.09 by fellow senior Brittany Marshall (Canton, Ga./Woodstock).
Junior Becca Gaarde (Parma/Western) posted season-best times in the 60-meter dash (8.55) and 200-meter dash (27.68). Sophomore Jenna Mayle (Ionia) had a season-best time of 1:06.49 in the 400-meter dash.
Olivet will compete at the Trine (Ind.) University Indoor Meet #4 next Friday, Feb. 17. Action gets started at 4 p.m.
