Swimming teams compete in 800 freestyle relay at MIAA Championships
The Olivet College men’s and women’s swimming teams began competition tonight at the 2012 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, hosted by Hope College and held inside the Holland Community Aquatic Center.
HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College men's and women's swimming teams began competition tonight at the 2012 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships, hosted by Hope College and held inside the Holland Community Aquatic Center.
The only event held tonight was the 800-yard freestyle relay. The women's quartet of senior Caitlin Lohr (Holland/Hamilton), senior Jessica Howard (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead), sophomore Kristin Long (Pemberville, Ohio/Notre Dame Academy) and freshman Jazmin Johnson (Grand Rapids/Northview) finished in third-place with a time of 7:59.39. The time is also the third-best in school history.
The men's team of senior Austin Munn (Pinckney), freshman Jimmy DeRupa (Trenton), freshman Brandon McShane (Southgate/Anderson) and junior Joel Knight (Battle Creek/Lakeview) placed fifth in 7:08.46.
Action continues tomorrow through Saturday. Thursday's events get underway with preliminaries in 10 swimming events, five for each gender, at 10 a.m., and finals in those same events at 5:30 p.m.
