Men’s swimming team winning all three duals in a triple dual meet
After the first day of a triple dual meet at Lakeview High School in Battle Creek, the Olivet College men’s swimming team is winning against the other three schools. The Comets are beating Hope College, 91-57; Carthage (Wis.) College, 96-52; and Albion College, 126-30, through nine events. Ten additional events will take place tomorrow, beginning at 11 a.m.
BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – After the first day of a triple dual meet at Lakeview High School in Battle Creek, the Olivet College men's swimming team is winning against the other three schools. The Comets are beating Hope College, 91-57; Carthage (Wis.) College, 96-52; and Albion College, 126-30, through nine events. Ten additional events will take place tomorrow, beginning at 11 a.m.
Olivet got off to a fast start by winning the 400-yard medley relay. The team of Nick Edgar (Lansing/ Everett), Phil Barone Jr. (Perrysburg, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales), Joel Knight (Battle Creek/Lakeview) and Brian Fiorillo (Southgate/Anderson) clocked-in at 3:34.27.
In the 200 individual medley, Brock Jackson (Sturgis) led a 2-3 Comet finish, as he finished in 1:59.01. Georges Aoun (Barquisimeto, Venezuela/Unidad Educativa Colegio) followed him in 2:02.71.
Barone Jr. was the runner-up finisher in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.27, only one-tenth second behind the winner.
The Comets posted a 3-4-5 finish in the 200 backstroke. Edgar was third in 2:04.17, followed by Austin Munn (Pinckney) in 2:04.28 and Brandon McShane (Southgate/Anderson) in 2:04.55.
Jackson won the 100 freestyle in 47:59 seconds to lead a 1-2-5 Olivet finish. Fiorillo was second in 47.82 seconds, followed by Mike Harden in 48.68 seconds. Aoun captured the win in the 200 butterfly in 1:59.68. He was the only swimmer to go under two minutes in the event.
The best performance of the night was the Comets finishing 1-2 in the 200 freestyle relay. The "A" team of Fiorillo, Harden, Jackson and Ben Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) won in a pool record time of 1:26.08. Swimming on the second-place "B" relay were Mauk, Edgar, Nick Aldrich (DeWitt/St. Johns) and Munn, and their time was 1:29.01.
