Men’s lacrosse team routs Calvin, 20-7

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Freshman Jack Ranson scored a game-high eight points (five goals and three assists) to lead the Olivet College men's lacrosse team to a 20-7 win over Calvin College today at the Zuidema Soccer Field in Grand Rapids.

Ranson scored twice and four others each scored once to give the Comets a 6-0 lead after one quarter. Olivet opened the second stanza with two more goals to take an 8-0 lead. After the Knights scored their first goal at the 11:15 mark, the Comets scored back-to-back goals for a 10-1 lead. Calvin netted the final two goals of the quarter to trail 10-3 at halftime.

The Knights scored the first goal of the third quarter, but Olivet answered with five of the last six goals of the half to lead by 10, 15-5 after three quarters of play. The Comets stretched their lead to 18-5 with three goals in less than two minutes to start the fourth quarter. Calvin scored two straight goals but Olivet responded with the final two goals for the final 20-7 score.

Ranson led all players with his eight points, with all five of his shots on-goal finding the back of the net. Freshman Cameron Bazin also had five goals as well as one assist for six points. Freshman Matt Arb scored twice and collected a team-leading four assists for six points.

Freshmen Dakota Badder and James Collins each finished with three goals and one assist. Freshman Jordan Stover had a goal and an assist, while Sheldon Berry had one goal. Sophomore Ryan McGee started the game in the cage and allowed four goals on 12 shots, while making eight saves. Freshman Hunter Teare gave up three goals on five shots, and made two saves.

Olivet will conclude its inaugural season on men's lacrosse next Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at DePauw (Ind.) University.
