Men’s basketball team falls to Adrian, 53-35
The men’s basketball team fell to Adrian College, 53-35, tonight at the Merrilat Sports & Fitness Center in Adrian. With the loss, the Comets slip into a tie with the Bulldogs for fourth-place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) with 5-6 records.
ADRIAN, Mich. – The Olivet College men's basketball team fell to Adrian College, 53-35, tonight at the Merrilat Sports & Fitness Center in Adrian. With the loss, the Comets slip into a tie with the Bulldogs for fourth-place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) with 5-6 records.
Adrian's defense did not let the Comets reach double figures in the scoring column until there was 2:02 left in the opening half. The Bulldogs led by 21 points, 34-13, at halftime. Olivet chipped away at its deficit and trailed by 16 points, 47-31, with 7:15 left in the game.
For the game, the Comets shot 27.5 percent (14-of-51) from the floor, and missed all 16 of their three-point attempts. Adrian shot 38.9 percent (21-of-54) from the floor, including 4-of-10 from behind the arc. Both teams were 7-of-11 from the free throw line.
Freshman Jeff Cain (Lansing/Sexton) was the only Olivet player in double figures with 10 points. Sophomore Marquis Childers (Muskegon/Heights) and junior DaunTrell Hill (Grand Rapids/Wyoming Godwin Heights) each had six. Senior Garner Small (Schoolcraft) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
For Adrian, Eric Lewis poured in a game-high 14 points. Sean Gallant recorded a double-double, 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Adam Meier just missed his own double-double with a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with nine points.
The Comets will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday when Trine (Ind.) University visits The Cutler Event Center for a 3 p.m. game.
