Three Olivet College student-athletes have earned 2004 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) softball honors. Senior first baseman Kim Horanburg (Grand Ledge High School) and junior shortstop Beth Shunkwiler (Berrien Center/Berrien Springs High School)were selected first-team All-MIAA. Junior pitcher/outfielder Jenn Newland (Tekonsha High School) earned second-team honors.

The Olivet College softball team split a doubleheader this afternoon at non-conference foe Siena Heights University in Adrian. The Lady Comets lost the first game, 3-2, in eight innings, and rallied to win the nightcap, 6-5.

In their first game, the Lady Comets defeated Elizabethtown (Pa.) College, 7-2. In the second game, they dropped a 3-1 decision against Menlo (Calif.) College.

The Lady Comets rallied from a 5-2 deficit after five innings to defeat Ohio Northern University, 7-5, and lost a heartbreaker, 3-2, against Concordia (Calif.) University.

The Olivet College kicked off the 2004 season by sweeping two games during the first day of the Sun West Tournament hosted by Chapman University in Orange, California. In the first game, the Lady Comets defeated Menlo (Calif.) College, 6-4, and in the second game, they came from behind to knock off Elizabethtown (Pa.) College, 6-5.
