UOlivet swept by UW-Stevens Point in season-opener

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team was swept by University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in its season-opening match on Shirley Egner Court and inside the Berg Gym.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: UW-Stevens Point defeated Olivet 25-18, 25-16, 25-12

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The beginning of the first set was close, as neither team led by a sizeable margin. The Pointers seized a four-point lead, 12-8, before the Comets scored five straight points to take the lead back. From that point, there were four more tied scores After the fourth time at 16-16, UWSP grabbed a two-point lead, 18-16 and forced Olivet to call its second timeout. The run continued out of the stoppage and the Pointers held the advantage for the rest of the set, winning it by a 25-18 final.
- UWSP led the second set from start-to-finish.
- Early in the third set, the Comets held a one-point lead on three occasions. Following the third time at 8-7, the Pointers went on a 5-0 run to go up 12-8. UWSP did not relinquish its lead for the remainder of the set.
FOR THE COMETS
- Sophomore Silas Martin slammed down nine of the 25 Olivet kills.
- Freshman Alex Temple was next with five kills.
- Freshmen Jared Carter and Austin Chamblee tallied 11 and nine set assists, respectively.
- Senior Matthew Tollar recorded six digs.
UP NEXT
- The Comets will stay in Wisconsin tonight to play in the Lakeland University Triangular tomorrow. Olivet faces Maranatha Baptist University (Wis.) tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. ET, followed by a match against the host Muskies at approximately 5 p.m. ET.
