UOlivet falls to Albion in MIAA Tournament first round

ALBION, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's volleyball team fell to Albion College in three sets in a first round match of the 2025 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament at Kresge Gymnasium.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Albion defeated Olivet 25-16, 25-19, 25-20

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The beginning of the first set was back-and-forth, as there were five lead changes and nine tied scores before the teams settled for an 11-11 deadlock. The Britons used two kills and three Olivet attack errors to go up 16-11. The Comets closed the gap to two points, 16-14. Albion ended the set on a 9-2 run.
- The Britons raced out to a 4-0 lead in the second set. Albion extended its lead to as many as nine points, 19-10. Olivet fought back to trim its deficit down to four points on four occasions but never got any closer.
- The Comets had two kills and a double block to open the third set with a 3-0 lead. The Britons countered with a 3-0 spurt to even the score. Olivet scored the next point, but Albion answered with two points. The Comets evened the score at 5-5.
- The Britons responded with two points and held onto the lead until Olivet came back to tie the score at 15-15. Following three more tied scores (17-17, 18-18 and 19-19), Albion closed the set with a 6-1 spurt.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet finished the match with 28 kills.
- Freshman Payton Smith topped the team with 10 kills.
- Junior Julia Hall finished the match with seven kills, with only one attack error on 19 attempts for a .316 attack percentage.
- Sophomore Jordyn Smith recorded 19 set assists.
- Jordyn Smith and senior libero Jaydn Cary each collected nine digs.
