UOlivet drops four-set match at Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's volleyball team lost in four sets to Kalamazoo College in a non-conference match tonight at the Anderson Athletic Center.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Kalamazoo defeated Olivet 25-15, 29-27, 17-25, 25-11
- Location: Anderson Athletic Center; Kalamazoo, Michigan
- Records: Olivet 2-7 overall, Kalamazoo 6-5 overall
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hornets led the opening set from start-to-finish, with the 10-point difference at the end being their largest lead.
- Neither team led by more than two points for the duration of the second set. The Comets got two set point at 24-22 before Kalamazoo scored three straight points to make the score 25-24. Olivet saved three set points to level the score at 25-25, 26-26 and 27-27. A Hornet kill and Comet attack error gave the set to Kalamazoo.
- The Hornets led 4-2 in the third set. Olivet used a 7-0 run to take a 9-4 lead. The Comets stretched their advantage to as many as 11 points, 23-12. Olivet went on to win the set, 25-17.
- The Comets scored the first point of the fourth set. Kalamazoo answered with a 5-0 run before Olivet put the next four points on the scoreboard to trail by one. The Hornets scored four of the next six points for a 11-7 lead. The Comets closed the gap to two points before Kalamazoo ended the set on a 14-4 run to win it 25-11.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet totaled 41 kills in the match.
- Freshman Payton Smith slammed down a team-leading 16 kills.
- Freshman Hailey Day and junior Julia Hall were next with eight and six kills, respectively.
- Hall posted a team-best .182 attack percentage.
- Senior Violet Porter contributed five blocks (one solo and four assisted).
- Sophomore Jordyn Smith tallied 36 set assists.
- Senior Jaydn Cary had a match-best 24 digs.
- Junior Olivia Still served three aces.
