Olivet swept at Saint Mary’s in season-finale

NOTRE DAME, Ind. –The University of Olivet women's volleyball team closed out the 2024 season with a three-set loss to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Saint Mary's (Ind.) College today at the Angela Athletic Center.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Olivet jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the opening set. The Belles responded with a 7-0 run to take an 11-9 lead. The Comets scored the next point, but they did not get any closer for the rest of the set.
- The start of the second set was back-and-forth with five tied scores and a couple lead changes. After a 9-9 deadlock, Saint Mary's took advantage of two Olivet errors to go up 11-9. The Belles held the advantage for the remainder of the set.
- The third set saw the Comets go up two points twice in the early stages. After a 5-5 tie, Saint Mary's used a kill and ace to take a lead which it did not relinquish.
FOR THE COMETS
- Seniors Hayleah McFadden and Abi Nunez each recorded 11 kills to lead Olivet.
- Sophomore Julia Hall had six kills, with one error on 18 attempts for a .278 attack percentage.
- Seniors Teagan Giannunzio and Maddie Johnson saw time at setter, and tallied 23 and five assists, respectively.
- Junior Jaydn Cary finished with a team-best 14 digs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Nunez finishes the 2024 season with the second-most kills for a season in UOlivet history with 388. The record is 390 by Stefanie Lang during the 2014 season. She broke the single-season records in attack attempts (1,105) and kills per set (4.17). Nunez slips into 10th all-time with 635 career kills.
- Giannunzio ends her UOlivet career with the fifth-most set assists (1,579).
- Cary will enter her senior season with the 10th-most digs in UOlivet history with 881. In 2024, she had the seventh-most for a season with 444.
