Olivet coasts to three-set win over Kuyper

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's volleyball team won an easy three-set match over Kuyper College this evening at the Cutler Event Center.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Olivet defeated Kuyper 25-4, 25-5, 25-6
- Location: Cutler Event Center; Olivet, Michigan
- Records: Olivet 9-4 overall, Kuyper 0-10 overall
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first set, the teams traded the first four points to result in 1-1 and 2-2 deadlocks. Olivet then ended the set on a 23-2 run to win the set, 25-4.
- The Comets never trailed in the second set. At one point, Olivet lead 15-1.
- The Cougars scored the first two points of the second set. From there, the Comets reeled off eight straight points and never looked back.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet broke the single-match school record with a .548 hitting percentage (38 kills with 4 errors on 62 attempts). The Comets tied for the third-most service aces in a three-set match with 14.
- Freshman Ashlynn Giannunzio broke the three-set match record with eight service aces. The eight ranks second-most in a match, with the record being nine by Katie Schaum against Grove City (Pa.) College on September 3, 2004.
- Senior Abi Nunez and junior Violet Porter each slammed down a team-leading seven kills.
- Freshman Laynie Elkins and Jordyn Smith finished with six kills apiece.
- Sophomore Grace Grew and senior Madison Johnson split time at setter, recording 17 and 12 assists, respectively.
- Giannunzio had a team-best eight digs.
UP NEXT
- Olivet heads to Circleville, Ohio, Saturday for two matches at Ohio Christian University. The Comets face the host Trailblazers at 1 p.m., followed by a match against Salem (W.Va.) University.
