Volleyball team rallies to beat Albion in five sets
The volleyball team rallied to beat MIAA rival Albion in five sets tonight at the Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
OLIVET, Mich. -- The Olivet College volleyball team rallied to beat Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Albion College in five sets tonight at the Cutler Event Center in Olivet. After Albion won the first set 26-24, Olivet won the second set, 25-19. The Britons answered with a 25-19 win in the fourth set before the Comets took the fourth set, 27-25. In the fifth and deciding set, Olivet raced out to a 12-4 lead and won the set, 15-7.
Sophomore Sam Gibson (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) led the Comet front row attack with 18 kills, as they recorded a single-match high 59 kills. Sophomore Ashley Grimes (Concord) also recorded double digit kills with 15. Junior Jordy Bergeron (Muskegon/Mona Shores) and sophomore Tori King (Ash Grove, Mo.) posted nine and seven kills, respectively.
Senior Jenessa Hicks (Union City) led the team with 38 set assists. Defensively, junior Mallory Schug (Climax/Galesburg Augusta) had a match-high 25 digs. Junior Megan McCarty (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) was next with 12 digs.
Olivet (6-3, 3-1 MIAA) will next play Friday, Sept. 24, when it hosts Calvin College at 6:30 p.m.
