Wrestling team defeats Heidelberg, 22-17
The Olivet College wrestling team defeated Heidelberg (Ohio) University, 22-17, tonight in its season-opening dual match at Seiberling Gymnasium in Tiffin, Ohio.
TIFFIN, Ohio – The Olivet College wrestling team defeated Heidelberg (Ohio) University, 22-17, tonight in its season-opening dual match at Seiberling Gymnasium in Tiffin, Ohio.
At 125 pounds, senior Henry McKeown (Bellevue/Olivet) scored a takedown with eight seconds left to edge Tyler Price, 8-7. After the Comets were forced to medically default at 133 pounds, senior Justin Holm (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) tied the match at 6-6 with a 6-0 win at 141 pounds.
Senior Gage Pederson (Hastings) won 11-5 at 149 pounds to put Olivet back ahead by three points at 9-6. At 157 pounds, junior Kyle Witgen (Romeo) pinned Aaron Banko with 16 seconds left in the third period to make the team score 15-6.
Following a close 3-2 loss at 165 pounds, junior Nick Allen (Scotville/Mason County Central) earned those three team points for the Comets back with a 6-0 shutout win at 174 pounds. Senior Jeff Holm (Battle Creek/Harper Creek) secured the Olivet's win by posting an 8-0 major decision win at 184 pounds. The Student Princes closed the match with back-to-back major decisions at 197 and 285 pounds.
The Comets return to the mats on Saturday when they participate in the Trine (Ind.) University Open. Action inside Hershey Hall starts at 9 a.m.
