UOlivet upended at Aquinas in straight sets

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team was downed by non-league foe Aquinas College in three sets tonight at the Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Aquinas defeated Olivet 25-23, 25-23, 25-18
- Location: Sturrus Sports & Fitness Center; Grand Rapids, Michigan
- Records: Olivet 5-19 overall, Aquinas 7-17 overall
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first set was extremely close, as there were 13 tied scores and five lead changes. Olivet held a 22-21 lead when the Saints took advantage of four Comet miscues – one service error, followed by three straight attack errors to put the final four points of the set on the scoreboard.
- Olivet scored the first three points of the second set. The Saints chipped away at their deficit and eventually evened the score at 13-13. The Comets tallied the next two points before Aquinas leveled the score at 18-18. Olivet went back ahead by two points, but the Saints had an answer to take a 23-22 lead. Following a Comet point, two Aquinas points ended the set in its favor.
- Except for two ties early in the third set, the Saints led it from start to finish. The Comets were down just two points, 15-13, before Aquinas closed the set with a 10-5 run.
- For the match, Olivet had four more kills than the Saints, 38 to 34, and one more ace, four to three. The difference was Aquinas had eight less service errors (10 to 18) and attack errors (10 to 18).
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshman Jared Carter and junior Aiden Chamblee each recorded 10 kills.
- Sophomores Payton Hastings and Silas Martin were next with five kills apiece.
- Freshman Austin Chamblee posted team-highs in set assists (30) and digs (eight).
- Carter and senior Matthew Tollar each tallied seven digs.
UP NEXT
- The Comets head to Ohio this weekend for their final two MCVL matches of the 2026 season. Olivet plays Baldwin Wallace University on Friday at 7 p.m., and University of Mount Union on Saturday at 1 p.m.
