UOlivet suffers three-set home loss to Mount St. Joseph

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team was on the losing end of a three-set match to Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) foe Mount St. Joseph University (Ohio) tonight at the Cutler Event Center.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first set, the Lions scored the first two points before Olivet scored the next two points for a 2-2 tie. MSJ responded with five straight points, including three kills by Carson Reed to take a 7-2 lead. The Lions did not trail for the remainder of the set.
- MSJ built a four-point cushion on several occasions in the second set. After a 13-9 score, the Comets went on a 6-2 run to even the score. Olivet then took its first lead of the set at 17-16. The Lions answered with a 6-0 spurt to seize a 22-17 advantage and did not relinquish it for the rest of the set.
- The Comets raced out to a 4-0 lead in the third set. Olivet held onto the lead until the Lions grabbed their first lead of the set at 11-10. The margin stayed at one point for either team for the middle part of the set. Down 18-16, MSJ used three kills and ace for a two-point lead, 20-18. The Comets countered with a 4-1 run to regain the lead. Two Lion kills followed by an Olivet kill leveled the score at 23-23. MSJ got to set point before a Comet kill tied the score. An Olivet service error and MSJ ended the set and match.
FOR THE COMETS
- Sophomore Silas Martin led Olivet with 12 kills.
- Sophomore Payton Hastings was next with eight kills to go along with a team-leading .412 attack percentage.
- Junior Aiden Chamblee recorded seven kills and team-best 10 digs.
- Freshman Jared Carter collected 20 set assists.
