UOlivet suffers four-set match loss to Mount Union

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team suffered a three-set loss to Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League foe University of Mount Union (Ohio) this afternoon inside the Cutler Event Center.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Mount Union defeated Olivet 25-15, 25-16, 24-26, 25-21
- Location: Cutler Event Center; Olivet, Michigan
- Records: Olivet 2-12 overall, 0-2 MCVL; Mount Union 11-8 overall, 2-0 MCVL
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Comets opened the match with a service ace, the Purple Raiders put the next four points on the scoreboard. Mount Union held the lead for the rest of the set.
- In the second set, Olivet used a 5-0 run to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 5-2 lead. The Purple Raiders answered with a 6-1 run to take an 8-6 lead. Mount Union did not relinquish its advantage.
- The start of the third set was back-and-forth with a couple lead changes and tied scores. Following a 5-5 deadlock, Olivet went on an 8-2 run for a 13-7 lead. The Purple Raiders fought all the way to even the score at 24-24. Back-to-back Mount Union attack errors handed the set to the Comets.
- In the fourth set, the Comets built a pair of two-point lead. Following a 3-1 score, the Purple Raiders scored four straight points to go 5-3. Olivet came back with a 6-3 burst to regain the lead. Mount Union responded with a 4-0 run to earn a 12-9 lead. The Purple Raiders held onto the lead for the remainder of the set.
FOR THE COMETS
- Freshman Silas Martin recorded a team-best 16 kills.
- Sophomores Aiden Chamblee added seven kills.
- Senior Will Mensching collected 31 set assists.
- Junior Matthew Tollar tallied a team-high 15 digs.
UP NEXT
- The Comets travel to play Aquinas College next Thursday, February 27. The first serve is at 7 p.m.
