UOlivet downed by Trine in straight sets

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's volleyball team suffered a three-set loss to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Trine (Ind.) University this afternoon inside the Cutler Event Center.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets got off to a fast start in set one with a kill and service ace for a 2-0 lead. The Thunder responded with four straight points before two Olivet points leveled the score at 4-4. Trine answered with a 3-0 spurt to go ahead 7-4. The Thunder held on to the lead for the rest of the set.
- Trine led 5-2 early in the second set. The Comets fought back and led by one point on three occasions, 10-0, 11-10 and 12-11. The Thunder used a 3-0 run to go up 14-12 and did not relinquish their advantage for the remainder of the set.
- Like the second set, Trine built a 5-2 lead in the third set. Olivet came back with a 4-0 run to take a 6-5 lead. The Thunder had a 5-3 spurt to regain the lead, 10-9. The Comets responded with five consecutive points for a 14-10 advantage. Olivet maintained the lead until Trine used a 4-0 spurt to turn a 16-13 deficit into a 17-16 lead. The Comets tied the score twice. After the second time at 18-18, the Thunder put the next three points on the scoreboard and never looked back.
FOR THE COMETS
- Olivet totaled 36 kills.
- Freshman Payton Smith led the way with 12 kills.
- Junior Julia Hall tallied 10 kills and .471 attack percentage, while recording a team-best four blocks (one solo and three assisted).
- Sophomore Jordyn Smith collected 31 set assists.
- Senior Jaydn Cary had a match-high 19 digs.
- Junior Olivia Still served three aces.
