UOlivet swept at Madonna

LIVONIA, Mich. – In a non-conference match, The University of Olivet women's volleyball team lost in three sets to Madonna University tonight inside the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Madonna defeated Olivet 25-17, 25-23, 25-19

- Records: Olivet 8-15 overall, Madonna 18-8 overall
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first set, Olivet scored the first two points before Madonna scored three straight points. The teams traded points to create two tied scores at 3-3 and 4-4. The Crusaders responded with an 8-2 run to go up 12-6. Olivet fought back to close the gap to two points, 19-17. Madonna put the final six points on the scoreboard to win the set, 25-17.
- To begin the second set, the teams exchanged the first 10 points to cause five deadlocked scores. After the fifth time at 5-5, the Comets went on a 5-0 run and forced the Crusaders to call a timeout. Madonna came all the way back to seize a 20-19 lead. A series of points led to three tied scores at 20-20, 21-21 and 23-23. The Crusaders used a kill and service ace to post a 25-23 set two victory.
- The early stage of the third set was back-and-forth. Olivet put together a 3-0 run, including back-to-back aces by senior libero Jaydn Cary, for a 10-8 lead. A 5-0 run put the Crusaders up 13-10. Madonna maintained its advantage for the rest of the set.
FOR THE COMETS
- For the match, Olivet totaled 32 kills.
- Junior Julia Hall and freshman Payton Smith finished with 10 kills apiece and a .250 and .233 attack percentage, respectively.
- Freshman Hailey Day recorded seven kills.
- Junior Jordyn Smith dished out 30 set assists.
- Cary tallied a team-best 14 digs and did not have an error on 21 serve receive attempts.
UP NEXT
- The Comets resume Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play Saturday when they host Trine (Ind.) University. The first serve at the Cutler Event Center is at 1 p.m.
