UOlivet sweeps Adrian in MIAA-opener

ADRIAN, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's volleyball team began the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) portion of its schedule with a three-set sweep against Adrian College tonight at the Merillat Sport & Fitness Center. The Comets won by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-15.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down 4-3 in the first set, the Bulldogs went on a 4-0 run to go up 7-4. The Comets responded with their own 4-0 run to take an 8-7 lead. The teams traded points to create three tied scores. After the third one at 10-10, the Comets used a kill and three Adrian attack errors to go up 14-10. Olivet held an advantage for the rest of the set.
- Early in the first set, the Comets built a five-point cushion, 7-2. The Bulldogs trimmed their deficit down to a single point, 12-11, but failed to get any closer the remainder of the set.
- Thie third set saw Olivet take an 8-3 lead. Adrian closed the gap to three points, 8-5. The Comets responded with a 5-2 spurt to go up 13-7. A 3-1 Bulldog run cut the gap to four points. Freshman Payton Smith slammed down five straight kills for a 9-point Olivet lead, 19-10. The Comets stretched their advantage to as many as 10 points.
FOR THE COMETS
- For the match, Olivet posted a .198 hitting percentage (39 kills, with 16 errors on 116 attempts) and forced the Bulldogs to hit at a -.043 attack percentage (22 kills, with 27 errors on 116 attempts).
- Payton Smith recorded a match-high 13 kills.
- Freshman Hailey Day and senior Violet Porter each tallied eight kills.
- Senior Morgan Good had five kills.
- Junior Jordyn Smith collected 28 set assists.
- Sophomore Ashlynn Giannunzio notched a match-high 17 digs, while senior Jaydn Cary had 15 digs.
