OLIVET, Mich. -- Olivet College Head Volleyball Coach Lynnette Moster has announced she is leaving the college to become the first assistant coach for the Northern Illinois University (NIU) volleyball program.
Moster completed her second season as the Comets' head coach in 2011. During her first season (2010), she led Olivet to a 12-15 overall record for the second-best season in school history and the first double digit win season in 25 years. The Comets also tied the school record for wins in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play with seven. Moster's players have also done well in the classroom, with seven being named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.
"My time at Olivet has been an experience I am extremely proud of," said Moster. "I will miss the team and staff but plan to keep those friendships. This opportunity to get back to Division I at a successful program like Northern Illinois does not come up often and I am honored to even be considered. The past two years at Olivet have been wonderful, and I look forward to seeing how the athletic department grows and expands in the near future."
By making the move to NIU, Moster joins a team that has been successful in the Mid-American Conference and has appeared in the NCAA Division I National Championships each of the last two years. She also returns to the level of competition where she played collegiately and began her coaching career. Moster was a four-year letterwinner at Georgia Institute of Technology and three-time American Volleyball Coaches Association selection. Prior to Olivet, she was the assistant coach at Georgetown (D.C.) University for two years and University at Albany (N.Y.) for one year.
"Coach Moster has done a tremendous job here for the Comets," said Olivet Athletic Director Heather Bateman. "We wish her the best and hope her future coaching endeavors are successful."
A national search for the next head volleyball coach will begin immediately.
