Norkowski named MIAA Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The University of Olivet senior Emily Norkowski has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Field Athlete of the Week. She is earning this honor for a second time this winter.
Norkowsi finished third and was the top NCAA Division III competitor in the triple jump at the Saginaw Valley State University / Jet's Pizza Invitational. Her mark of 34 foot, 7-1/2 inch is an UOlivet indoor record, which was recorded on her second attempt. Norkowski is the school indoor and outdoor record holder in the triple jump.
At SVSU, Norkowski also placed 11th in the long jump (15 feet, 9-3/4 inches) and seventh in the 60-meter hurdles. During the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles, she ran the fastest time in the MIAA this winter at 9.41 seconds. In addition, Norkowski ran the second leg of the 4x400-meter relay, which posted the second-fastest time in school history.
"Emily's hard work is paying off in a big way for her this year," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "As she gets stronger each week, she can do more at the track and field meet. Emily thrives when she can do multiple events at a high level. We look forward to her getting better every week in her senior season."
The Comets are back in action Friday at the Trine (Ind.) University / Mrs. G Invitational. Field events start at 3 p.m., followed by running events at 4 p.m.
